Steady As She Goes

+ more

"Steady As She Goes" is a nautical expression meaning if "She" is going through the difficult waters, (synonymous with a difficult situation), you, (synonymous with the sailor), are to keep things "steady" as "she goes" through them.

In this two-room exhibition of painting at EBERSMOORE Chicago, liquid striations, layered strokes, and gestural abstraction built a format for displaying conventions of painting the studio with idiosyncratic purpose. Imagery as well as abstraction provided prompts for contemplative, fluid engagement with painting.

In the off space, the four walls were each covered with white paper painted broadly floor to ceiling in gouache. Eight framed smaller gouache on paper pattern paintings set the space into vibratory motion with strokes forming striped and plaid patterns.
